Check out the PowerShot G11
|
Well this is a NICE looking little camera, isn’t it? I must admit there is something about a compact, point and shoot style body that seems so much simpler than an SLR.
But having said that, the S3 and SX20/10 models don’t really look much bigger. It’s just so cool to see a viewfinder above the lense!
So the lense, not too shabby at all at 28 WIDE to 140mm LONG. Obvisouly not such staggering length as on the S3/SX20/10 but pretty good.
I’ve noted that many professional news journalists are using the G series. They say it has fantastic image quality and can be used far more unobtrusively than an SLR.
The f/stop settings are f/2.8 at 28mm and f/4.5 at the longest 140mm, so not too bad at the long end. However, the ISO settings on this puppy are incredible.
The ISO range is 80 to 3,200 – WOW! So you get the option to set the film ultra fast in low light situations where you cannot or don’t want to use flash. But get this, there’s a ‘low light’ mode which enables you to shoot at up to 12,800 ISO???? Holy cow batman… Apparently great pics at that speed. I can see why journalists might love this. Take pics where you want to keep a low profile, no flash, tiny camera body etc. Brilliant!
Ok, here are some pics on flickr, click image to view;
Now what about video mode? Well, the good news is it does have a video mode. Unfortunately it’s not nearly as comprehensively specified as the S3/Sx20/10 but, it does have it! No HD though, just good old VGA, which as I said in a previous review is just fine with me!
Here is a sample from YouTube;
I couldn’t find a CNET review so here’s another YouTube video from What Digital Camera. This ia a great review, please watch!!
I must say, I think it’s kind of luverly in a fit nicely in yer handbag kinda way (for Laura of course, I don’t have a handbag, which is the same as a purse…)
Here’s a link to the full specifications of the Canon PowerShot G11 for your viewing pleasure.

I can not say enough good things about this camera. From the stylish and durable construction of the camera to the quality of images this thing has really exceeded my expectations. I have owned this camera for over 8 months now and have taken it everywhere, trips overseas, weddings, family outings, dinner parties, birthday parties, you name it. It has produced stellar photos at every occasion and as you can tell by the different number of events I’ve been to the versatility of the camera is extremely impressive. You can quickly switch between taking photos of food, portraits, other macro shots, running water or fast action sports shots, they all turn out amazingly well. If you are going on a trip (I went to Greece and wanted to capture every moment perfectly) do not be cheap, I beg you, you will regret it. The one and only downside to this camera, which is perhaps a downside for all current generation dslrs is the size. It doesn’t bother me at all because I know at the end of the day I will capture the most memorable shots. If you made it to the end of this review I have only one piece of advice for you: BUY THIS CAMERA!!! Actually, I have two, consider buying a lens with a little bit of zoom, the lens supplied with the kit gives you little to no zoom.
